Finally ... (26th - 29th of July 2009 Nuremberg to Chiang Mai)

Hello my dears,

finally - finally. There were many days within the last weeks where I thought we would never make it to here - but - finally - we made it.

But lets start from the start ...

Saturday 18.54 h the passports arrived - finally. We ran off for the FEZ (Shopping Mall) to get rid of our last ebay-stuff and to handle some other things.

Then off to Utes Pary - yessssss!!!
Although it was a great party, we didnt stay long, we were too exhausted.

Sunday 26th of July 2009
The shortly engaged cleaners from outta space came to save us. Again many thanks to Lili, Maria and Lora. Thousands of thank yous!!!!!!;-))))))

Then sharing out some things to the parents and then off to grannies birthday at the "Wanner". The last Schaeufala or Schnitzel ;-))))))

To Ute and Marco for the last Riesling.

To Uli and Katrin for the last Bottle of Averna.

And in between still some things to manage and to be done.

Monday 27th of July 2009
Getting our replacement passports.

Breakfast at "Zeit & Raum"(what an indulgance, after nearly have eaten anything the last days).
Changing money and buying Traveller Cheques
Rebooking our last part of the flight. Because now that we have the date of issue of the visa we know by which date we have to be in NZ ;-)))))
We couldnt do that before ;-)))))
Otherwise it would have been far too easy, dont you think so?
New arrival in Sydney at the 12th of October. Arrival in NZ on the 19th of October.

Checking the flat and official hand over of the keys of the flat.

The joke of the day was that I had to call Schenker to tell them that they may want some money from us and that today would be the last day to ask us for a longer period !!!!!!!
I am always (still) absolutely astonished for whom else I always have to think too. (!!??!!)

22.00 h fell into bed - totally exhausted.

Tuesday 28th of July 2009

Well - standing up at our last day here.
What shall I say - funny feeling.

Somehow the flat seemed to not want to get empty, and all of that costs nerves and energy.
Dont think - dont think. Just do - just do.
The mind is brimfull - and the hart too.
Dont think - dont think.
Just pack - just pack.
Everything will be fine.

I really wouldnt have thought we would make it to get the flat cleared up, but somehow we made it - right in time - as always - but for what a price!!!

Then the last family lunch at the Schlenkerla.
http://www.schlenkerla.de
I couldnt eat nearly anything.

And then everything went really fast - which was very good - I think for everyone of us.
Off with Alex in the car to Munich Airport.
Very short "good Bye" with Alex which was good too.
Flight to London Heathrow.

Then there was a question that question, if we had an extra visa for such a long stay in Thailand (the next shock). No, we will leave Thailand after less than 4 weeks to Laos. If we could prove that? Thanks to heaven, I print everything out, that we might need, so we could proof that. We both took a deep breath.
And then the reward - we got an upgrade - we would fly business - yessssss.
(Did I already mention that I chose the day of our departure with the help of a feng shui calender?????)

I slept the hole fligt - that was luxus pure.
Stefan did chose the whole menue with a shiraz and two movies. ;-)))))))
He said, that I slept away the whole luxus, but sleeping on a flight (which is normally impossible for me) is indulgance at its finest. The seats become real beds. Wow. And we got pyjamas with the Quantas label on it ;-))))))

The brekkie was also phantastic, but again I wasnt able to eat at all.
Everythings gonna be fine - for sure. ;-)))))

Then in Bangkok we really did not have to change to the other airport. All in the same building. Joy and relief - yess. It is starting to get easier.
And - at that day - our flight was the only flight from Air Asia that came out on time (Did I already mention...)

In Chiang Mai we got a lift from Run and Niti from "Friends for Asia". They brought us to our hotel. Everythin was fine.

At the moment we try to get used to the thai wheather and the thai keyboard.
This evening we will go out eating with the other volunteers and maybe a massage. ;-)))))

Yesterday morning I - for a short time - had a short trace of panic. But now its fine.

Slowly but surely I start to realise whats happening. Before there war no time and no room for that. And at least to look forward to whats all ahead of us ;-))))

Well - today - no catastrophies, but that really feels good.

Next time more info about Chiang Mai.

Thats all for today.

Sandra und Stefan

Actually..... (17th - 25th of July 2009 Nuremberg)

Hi everybody,

Actually we want ...
but actually we must first ...
BUT...

OK, let's start from the beginning:
;-)))))

Friday 17th of July 2009
After an very hectic preparation day for the big party on Saturday our friend Ute hijacked us at 4:00 p.m. for a big surprise (a journey into the blue distance). We thought, it's the Asia Market (just around the corner)... But as we came on the A9 heading South (Munich) it was absolutely clear that we want to have a long drive....
And than......   ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS.... The open Air Concert from Fanta 4 in Ingolstadt (100st anniversary from AUDI)... INCREDIBLY!!!!  GORGEOUS IDEA!!!
It's one of the best German Hip Hop Band (in our eyes THE BEST EVER...). Here are some examples from youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kicwl6skmWA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEn1YqfADuw&feature=related

Unplugged, with a 60 men/women orchestra from Russia..
We got rain capes at the entrance because everybody told us that we will have hard rain and thunderstorm later in the night...
AND....  we got it....
It was the heaviest thunderstorm in the last 10 years. The storm blown the sheets of music away, the rain slashed into the stage and everybody run away. Nearby our place was a building with a roof and we stayed there. The rain was incredibly. Water and water everywhere....  The men from the fire brigade evacuate us into the underground car park. Ute and Petra went back to the parking space for getting the car (brave girls)...
Totally wet with soaked clothes we jumped into the dry and warm car...... and we drove back with fabulous mood....

Saturday 18th of July 2009
Extremely gorgeous party from 2 p.m. till 3:30 a.m.
Somebody told us that we had no enough to eat...... Ok, just 4 family pizzas were left and some of the stuff from our friends (around 85 the whole day)....
We had lots and lots of really interesting and amazing talks....

It was absolutely fabulous, thank you very much for everything..
Many thanks to our friends far away from Nuernberg who joined us for the party.
Many thanks to Michael for the little Apple notebook from one of our stores in Leipzig
We had an absolutely fabulous party.... THANK YOU

Sunday 19th of July 2009
Clean up our apartment -  than we ate some crispy pork shoulders (specialty in Nuernberg, see http://www.gourmet-food-revolution.com/roast-pork-shoulder-recipe.html and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDphBLR84hc ) with friends from Munich and Michael and Nicole - back to cleaning....

Monday 20th of July 2009
No idea.....
Ok... most of our friends collect the stuff that we sold them, more eBay, the plants, the writing desk etc.....

And than, we had a really really good dinner from Michael and Bernard...  Thanks a lot for the recipes   ;-)))))))

Tuesday 21st of July 2009
Hectic sorting of a lot of things (for the 5th or 10th time....). Tomorrow come Schenker for our furniture, hectic writing of our value list (we had to send it at this day to Schenker)

Tim gave us an introduction to our new Apple Notebook (many thanks for that) cause we need him, after tomorrow if the PC is in the container. Our thank was a barbecue with Tim ;-))...
More packing and whatever until midnight....

Wednesday 22nd of July 2009
7:30 a.m., the foreman from Schenker walk in goose step across our apartment. Do you have coffee? Noooo cause everything is ready for the container.... OK....

8:00 a.m., the next 5 man started.... Sandra wrote a lot of signs for the rooms (here everything, here just the desk, the chairs and the books and and and)... Absolutely fabolous, what a speed in packing boxes and furniture, incredible.....

Till lunch time everything was done - 164 parts - incl. boxes for clothes, books and tableware. Naturally with elevator from the street (our apartment is in the 3rd floor, no elevator)

Afternoon, cleaning and clear everything that's a little bit more homelike (without most furniture). We had just the bed, our couch, the TV (who needs it?), a table and 2 chairs.
In the evening we had a barbeque with our neighbours from the 4th floor.
For this meeting we had a 5 litre barrel beer from Kulmbacher for all fans of the 1. FCN (the best soccer club in the world  ;-)) )  http://www.fcn.de/en/

And now it comes!!!!

Thursday 23rd of July 2009
The plan was, that we had a quit and lazy day.....

I (Sandra) woke up at 6 o'clock in the morning and think "let's check the mails - perhaps there is something from interest for me"
I go to my new friend (the Apple notebook) and the next catastrophe came...
We got a mail from our lawyer Peter to our immigration officer Clare. He emphasis the importance of the time limit for our visas and passports till Monday. Higher costs for an express service would no problem and and and.....
OK, why did he write that mail?? Scroll down AND....
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUMPHHHHH!!!!
She wrote that our passports are the next in the row (they are just 2 weeks in London, cause we send it via express to them) and she will TRY to finish it till Thursday....  TRY IT????
I pick the telephone and call Peter in NZ (7:00 a.m. Germany is 5:00 p.m. NZ).... Yepp, we should write a mail to Clare and we should call her. Perhaps everything will be better...\

Next thing, wrote a mail to Clare...
I was in really bad bad mood. Stefan too...  I cryed... That was IMPOSSIBLE....
But than... An idea!!!
What happens if a person lost the passport 2 days before they fly in a foreign country??
Into the internet and - thanks google - to the Nurnberg registration office (in Germany everybody has to register his adress and presence in this city office). I call them - yepp, no problem, it exist an express service for passports. It was the responsible clerk for that issues (I was extremly lucky...). She said if we come today morning we get a new passport till Monday.....
GREAT....!!!!
Let's go...
We planned the whole day new (we had appointments every 2 hrs). But that was really easy. Planning was and is one of our best skills ;-))) .
We need biometric photos for Stefan (thank you Mr. Bush for that), I had some (lucky for me, cause my eyes were swollen from the crying)Quick to the registration office, we told the clerk our situation, more crying from me (Sandra). The clerk was absolutely super - give me your ID card, photos and sit down... The 2nd passport is no problem. Many business persons who travel a lot have one....
We did the registration things and she told us that we can get our 2nd passports at Monday, 8:20 a.m.. valid for one year......
UFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!

Next thing was breakfast in a bakery and than the next steps:
Our ebay packets to the post

Than to Helma and Sebastian for a cherry bread pudding... GREAT
Accupuncture and more vitamins and dietary supplement for the next 6 months from Ioan
To Sabine, our tax adviser, for the tax from 2008 and 2009
Bank concerning adress changes and custody account
tourist office (for changing of our flights).....

It's possible, perhaps, that the changing is not so easy or impossible. Perhaps we need a new booking (ok, it's just money....  hrmmmpf)
.....
We have full confidence in you
....
Than our last evenning with Lili (Sandras best friend), Uli, Marie and Felix. It starts with all of the bad news from today... But our mood changed.... God thanks Lilis SUPER Lasagne, the SUPER Tiramisu and the drinks  ;-)))

Friday 24th of July 2009
The plan was... we have a silent and relaxing day
Lili and Stefan brought a lot of stuff to the recycling centre. Till lunch everything was there...
Our cabinet was fetched.
GREAT
THAN!!
Lunchtime, a mail from our new immigration officer Joel. The passports and the visa are ready and we should contact him concerning the credit card for the bill from DHL (you remember, the express service). Joel will send it immediately and we will get it latest Saturday afternoon....
Good theory....
Ok, we called Joel, gave him the credit card number, he gave us the tracking number from DHL (god thanks)

Do we have luck?? Will the passports come on Saturday???

We will see.....

Tim came, gave us some help with the apple and than to our friend Stefanos Ntallas, greek party  :-))))

SUUUUPER !!!!!

Best greek in town and northern part of Bavaria and the rest of Bavaria too..... It was not allowed for us to pay (it's always the same with him ;-))) )....   After a good mokka and some Ouzo it was time to go....  :-((((

Saturday 25th of July 2009
Actually it was supposed to be a quiet day.
6 o'clock in the morning, had the idea of getting up and on the computer to look where our passports are right now.
Well - Leipzig - not that far away.
Round 8 o'clock they should be on their way to Frankfurt.

We imagine ourselfes sitting in "Zeit & Raum" for breakfast and enjoing our day in the city - well - back to reality.
10 o'clock - the passports are still on their way to Frankfurt.
Whats happening there????
Calling DHL.
Yes, we know, we are so sorry, there is a problem, this is force majeure, we cant help and you have done everything right, Saturday is normally not a regular day for delivery, oh I see, you ordered Saturday especially (thats why it should go express - argllll) and even payed more for it (72 Pound by the wey), well well, but on monday it will be there ...
PHAAAANTAAAAASTIIIIIIIIC!!!!

We managed in the meantime as much as possible inside of the flat.
Maybe going to breakfast to "Zeit & Raum"?
No, lets finish our ebaythins and then the box for the recyclingcourt.

12.15 h in a sudden (from outa space) our passports appeared on the computer in NUREMBERG - wow!!!!

What now?
Calling DHL
Will this item come today?
We would drive anywhere to get it?
Yes it will be delivered today between 15 and 17 o'clock.
Well, now I am sitting here - the whole day - waiting for the passports.
There is beautiful weather outside, our last Saturday in Nuremerg and I have to sit here and wait for this damned DHL guy.

No recreation, no joy or enjoy, no going downtown for a nice Capuccino ...
We thought that the last days here in Germany would be a bit different.
Tomorrow the big "Cleaningevent" that I organised on this day because we realised it is not possible to make all those things on the last days just on our own.
After that my Grannies birthday.
Maybe some time in the evening for ourselves - just the two of us or so. Maybe donwtown.

Monday: getting our replacement passports, breakfast downtown, Reisebank for the traveller cheques and cash, travel agency for rebooking our tickets, 15 o'clock handover of the keys and last inspection of the flat. And then maybe some time for us - cinema??? We still have the vouchers we got. Going out eating would be nice - lets see.

Tuesday: I hope, the red cross comes and takes the leftover furnitures and then to the "Schlenkerla" for our "last supper" with our parents.
Alex will take us to the Airport in Munich, 19.05 takeoff to Bangkok via London and then further to Chiang Mai.

So far our plans and wishes. How reality will bite us - we will report.

Now it is 16.12 h and no passports - well ...

Sandra - at the end of my rope - wishes you a wonderfull time and thanks you all for the assistance, backing and everything. Stefan of course too. Without you we wouldnt have made it up to here.

Love,
The Sallers
